So far, Andruw has more K's than hits & walks combined, and for all those big swings he has produced all of ONE HR. Of the 9 guys currently getting the most playing time, including both Ethier & Slappy, 5 have hit 3 HRs, DeWitt has 2 in less ABs, Raffy has 5, Slappy has his usual zero, and the guy leading the club in K's has ONE. The most K's, the fewest hits, the lowest BA, the lowest OBP and all of one HR, and all for $18M/yr+. Such a deal. Perhaps we should give him a bonus to encourage him to do more? They're booing one player, who deserves it. Or maybe they're booing the idea of that player even being on the team, after his not-so-great season last year, and his decline overall in recent years. I don't boo every time Jones comes to bat, but I respect the fans' rights to do so. We're paying for that grossly inflated salary, and it doesn't make anyone a "jerk" for expressing their discontent, particularly when the player being booed can't be bothered to even look like he cares about his performance. They’re not booing the team. They’re booing one player, who deserves it. Last year Slappy performed up to career norms but just wasn't a good fit to our needs. The pre-2007 Andruw Jones would be a great fit to our needs, but that guy hasn't showed up, at least not yet.
