True Blue — perhaps. But he is also young. Take a look at Sandy Koufax’s pre-1961 record. It’s rare that great — or even very good — pitchers come out of the minors fully-formed, or without having difficulties in the majors. There is room to improve, and being young, he’s more likely to do it than, say, the garbage he was traded for.

Edwin’s really been more lucky than good, as evidenced by his 1.472 WHIP and 57/42 K/BB’s ratio in just 89 innings of work. Don’t be surprised if he blows up in the second half.

Baez was coming off a 41 save, 152 ERA+ season, so I can't totally fault the idea.

Rob, you’re right. I wish they had kept him rather than making the deal they’d made. But if I remember at the time, they really needed a closer. Headed into 2006, Gagne was iffy at best, Brazoban wasn’t totally reliable, and no one knew what we had in Saito. I can understand the reason to get Baez, I just wish Jackson hadn’t been part of it. That said, he’s definitely not become the kind of “kick yourself for decades” pitcher like Pedro Martinez or Scott Kazmir.
