It’s Manny Time!

Me, from yesterday…
If anything, it’s been the Dodgers who have made notable deadline deals over the past 4-5 years. From 2004’s Penny and Finley deals to getting Maddux and Lugo in 2006,
… to 2008′s Manny Ramirez deal.
According to SI, and now Frank McCourt during the WBC Conference, the Dodgers have traded for Manny Ramirez. The deal involves a three way between the Dodgers, Pirates, and Red Sox. The Dodgers will send Andy LaRoche and pitcher Bryan Morris to Pittsburgh, while Jason Bay heads to Boston for Brandon Moss and Craig Hansen.
Analysis coming later!

How can you not love this trade?!?! We desperately needed the big bat. Manny’s going to make everyone else a better hitter. Lowe’s not going to kill anyone after going 7 innings and giving up two runs only to watch us lose 2-1. It’s going to force Torre to play both Kemp & Either, Let the Juan-hit Wonder fill in for ManRam and turn Jones into an anchor for the Goodship LollyPopUp.
I know we’ll all miss LaRoche but he’s in a good place. He’s reunited with his brother. And now BlaDe will get a chance to be the heir apparent to 3B with another year of seasoning.
Most importantly, we got a bat and the Diamondbacks didn’t. We’ve got a shot, a genuine shot now, to make the run at the pennant!

“Don’t trade Kemp for him. Don’t trade LaRoche for him. But if you can do it with Ethier as the centerpiece? So long, Andre. Hello, playoffs.”
Hmmmm… still holding to this from four articles back, guys?

Let the outfield shuffle commence!
Comment by Clay— July 31, 2008 #
I can see it now
1. Pierre LF
2. Berroa SS
3. Kent 2B
4. Ramirez RF
5. Sweeney 1B
6. Martin C
7. Blake 3B
8. Jones CF
9. Falkenbourg P (what the hell its my nightmare right)
Seriously though if the day comes that the outfield is Pierre in Left, Manny in Right, and Jones in Center i will Explode.
Overall i’m happy about the trade though. We are slowly constructing a late 1990′s to early 2000′s AL East all-star team

Hey VegasBlue, as a fellow Dodgers fan, I appreciate your optimism, however, who’s to say that our fearless leader Joe Torre wont do something foolish like start Pierre in center on a regular basis now that we have a true left fielder in Ramirez and leave Kemp and/or Ethier out of the mix? After all the questionable decisions Torre has made this year, I wouldn’t put this past him. My guess is that he’ll make a Kemp/Ethier platoon situation in right, with Jones and Pierre sharing time in center while Ramirez becomes an everyday player, leaving our up-and-coming stars Matt Kemp and Andre Ethier fighting for playing time much like earlier this year.
Hey Vin and MSTI, I guess that now Andy LaRoche is gone, it’s time for a new cause on the home page, right? How about a “Release Mark Sweeney at all costs” cause? Hopefully you wont have to make a cause for Matt Kemp or Andre Ethier to get regular playing time!

There’s no way Kemp isn’t going to start every day. Which means that Pierre is probably the odd-man out, probably coming in as a defensive replacement, a pinch runner, or a pinch hitter.

I wouldn’t be against Martin/Kemp being a leadoff hitter if it turns out that Pierre gets left out with Ramirez batting third and Kent in cleanup (don’t even joke about Jones going here).

Im a Red Sox fan, and huge Manny fan. Torre has got to get Jeff Kent out of the 5 spot. He’s having a horrible season. James Loney or Kemp should be batting behind him.. Martin should bat 2nd cause he’s got such a high obp and he can steal bases and run well. Blake is more of a RBI guy….
1 Pierre
2 Martin
3 James Loney
4 Manny
5 Kemp
6 Blake
or when kemp leads off….
1 Kemp
2 Martin
3 Loney
4 Manny
5 Blake
6 Kent

[...] So, What’d I Miss? May 3, 2010 at 11:24 am | In Andre Ethier, Andrew Lambo | Leave a Comment Every time I go away, something amazing happens. In June 2008, I took a weekend off and the Dodgers got no-hit by the Angels… and won. A few weeks later, I went on tour with the band and came back to find that Manny Ramirez and Casey Blake were now wearing Dodger blue. [...]
