One factor not brought up here: Cubs players got to play 1/2 their games at hitter friendly Wrigley, while the Dodgers played 1/2 their games at less hitter friendly Dodger Stadium. Now I know Dodger stadium isn't the pitcher's park it once was since the foul territory has shrunk some, but it isn't anywhere near the hitters park Wrigley usually is (excepting when the wind blows in). Plus the NL West as a whole probably has the least hitter friendly parks of any division in baseball.

So the bottom line is, I think if you adjust for ballparks, the line-ups are more even than your analysis suggests. Of course, that also means the pitching is probably closer than it would appear at first glance, too.

Am I onto something here, or just on something?

Kemp and Martin really need to step it up against Chicago. We know they're capable of it, and we know the Cubs aren't going to pitch to Manny. I pick those guys out of the others who need to step up because I think they have the most to give.

Willers, of course I wouldn't trade Kemp for Edmonds. But over the course of the 2008 season, Edmonds has been the more valuable offensive player, especially recently. Just look at the numbers. Therefore - for this one series over the next week - I had to give it to Edmonds.

My only problem with the Kemp/Edmonds thing is that Kemp is still an above average defensive center fielder, while Edmonds is actually rated as one of the worst.

Edmonds is more offensively valuable on a per game basis though. Though who knows if he would have normalized if he was given another 300 PAs. :o
