Honestly, I would platoon Howard as well.
I think Ryan’s HRs give him a big leg up, but how many of those HRs would have been HRs outside of Philly, while all of his Ks are Ks everywhere.
I see him having an obvious edge vis-a-vis Loney, but not a huge edge given all those Ks and his poor ‘D’.

Given Loney’s splits against LHP I think it’s more than reasonable to platoon, especially when you also factor in how hot Nomar is, and his ability to play good defense at 1st.

I know this has nothing to do with what you all are talking about, but I’m just curious. How many of Chase Utley’s current stats shatter the all time offensive records for Dodgers second basemen set by (I’m guessing) Davey Lopes and/or Jackie Robinson?

I’d say there’s two HUGE differences, C and 2B and two decently sized differences, 1B and LF. Blake over Feliz is somewhat less than either.

OK, and I should probably add 2B, though DeWitt isn’t awful – but there’s a *huge* gap between him and Utley.

Yeah, but James Loney’s no slouch either. There isn’t really any one position where one team has someone awesome and the other has someone awful, except C. Would you say the difference between Loney and Howard is bigger than the difference between Burrell and Manny?
