I glossed over Plaschke's title of his story and said to myself- What a bunch of shit! Plaschke is rapidly gaining on his twin, Tracy Ringolsby, in being a bigger idiot than Steve Phillips' Sweepstakes.

Our starting pitching has been good this whole post season, save Billz weak effort. And even then, our pen has been nails until last night. Maybe it would be a better story to ask Joe Torre why Lowe was pulled and not get a vague answer about his emotions or not liking how Kuo warmed up. But, instead Plaschke comes up with something that would be better used fertilizing my wife's backyard garden.

Just another reason the Times needs to rid themselves of this clown. He is stupid, fat and shows no signs of improving on either aspect.

I agree that our pitching has been stellar and that Plaschke is a blowhard. But I've also never been comfortable with Broxton, especially since he was forced to the closer role. The guy still tries to throw it by everyone without having any real control, and that just doesn't work sometimes at this level. Exhibit A: last night.

Also, and I can't believe no one's talking about this, we've been extremely unlucky at key points this series. When you think about Manny's crushed ball that somehow stayed in the park in Game 1 (deepest part of an otherwise bandbox stadium, and would've been out if it were a foot higher OR to the right), Blake's deep ball to center in Game 2, and then last night, my goodness, how many balls did the Dodgers hit hard but right at people? DeWitt in the 1st with two RISP (after Loney misses a HR by a foot), Martin's DP smash with the bases loaded, Kemp's seed right at Victorino with 2 RISP in the 7th, and that's just off the top of my head. It was fitting that the game ended with Kent hammering a ball right at the 3rd baseman. Sure, they still should've won, and you have to credit Philadelphia, but let's face it: they got the breaks against Chicago, and they're not getting them in this series.

MSTI: To answer your question, yes, Plaschke has just started to watch the Dodgers this week. Why? Because it's the playoffs. That's why his articles are so terrible, because he doesn't actually follow the team all that closely.

TBF: Bad timing and poor management. Basically.

Well, I hate Bill Plaschke and agreeing with him is like saying that cancer is the best disease you could ever have, but to be fair, our pitching staff has been terrible against the Phillies in this series. This was a game we should have won and that lead should have been safe from the 6th inning on after we had the 2nd best bullpen in the National League in the regular season. I know regular season stats mean nothing in the postseason but how is it that scoring almost 5 runs per game does NOT warrant a victory from a pitching staff that had the second best ERA in the majors this year?

maybe what Plaschke means is that they need indestructible bullpen arms made of steel that Torre can't destroy at inopportune times?
