What a dismal, pathetic showing.

Kudos to the team. They gave us more that we expected and I like the fact that the core of this team is young and cheap. Too bad that can’t be said about Andruw, Slappy or Schmidt. Otherwise, we are well set up for 2009 and we need to find the money to keep Manny and Raffy. I know Raffy had a crappy game, but would anyone prefer Berroa or Hu?
Besides, the talk about Peavy wanting to play in LA is intriguing. I just hope Kershaw is not part of those talks. Anyone else on the farm should be considered fair game, after that. This is Peavy we are talking about, give him some offense and he is a surefire 20-game winner.

Same situation as last game…..Howard to first base, but Kuo stayed and…the double play.
Mr Torre, why you pulled Kuo out last game??????

It’s true, we should be celebrating the team’s success this season after everything that’s happened. Honestly, from our two “starting” third baseman injured in the same spring training game, Andruw Jones failing to live up to even last season’s crapulance, seeing Matt Kemp and Andre Ethier take their rightful starting roles, getting Manny Ramirez in a deal that didn’t break up our team’s nucleus, beating Arizona’s two aces to take first place in the division, and then beating a team that had the best record in the National League just to get to this point? I’m pretty satisfied with that, all things considered.

I agree. After the season of ups and downs, this team overall did much better than I expected. We made it further than the Angels for pete’s sake! and they had the best record in baseball. Last night’s game? Some bad luck and a lack of oomph. We lost our first ace (Penny) and took bad hits with Saito & Furcal injuries. Oh well. Next year.

I agree with you guys that the season was a success overall. I just meant that the poor showing last night to end the season was pretty depressing.

Last night did blow….but after the season the boys had, they went 4-4 in the playoffs…Surprise? I think not.
Lots of work to do in the off season. Raffy and Manny are worth the bucks, although at Manny’s age, anything over three years seems like a bad idea.
Wait ’til next year once again….

A disappointing end to a mediocre season, saved only by Manny’s appearance — and now, disappearance.

I’m very interested in this offseason because I’m betting several good and bad things are going to happen. One, Jeff Kent will pull a Brett Favre and retire (minus the tears), and then create a big media splash by announcing he wants to play again in ’09. Unlike Favre, no team signs him to play. Andruw Jones and Juan Pierre, upset that they’ve lost their starting jobs will mutiny and cry and whine to the media “until they get traded to a team that will start them”. Jones will shut up the second he gets traded to the Yankees and is immediately handed a bench job. Pierre will be kept around as a reserve outfielder until Delwyn Young finally proves his hitting prowess at this level and replaces JP, further reducing him to tears and anguish. The pain of losing yet another “job” drives Juan to taking steroids in hopes of becoming a better hitter and is immediately caught by Senator Mitchell and his gang. Man it’s fun to speculate!
