Bullpen and bench need only minor tampering. Keep Saito, Biemel if Torre will use him better. Keep Nomar, get Piazza out of retirement(I wish). Young,Abreu,Repko make for nice bench parts

Forget Byrd, that is just begging for another Tomko. Pedro Martinez, Randy Johnson, and Greg Maddux all make more sense than Byrd. But we can afford to chuck cash at a number one. I will honestly not be happy if Ned doesn’t get Manny or CC. My plan without Manny.

Something I worry about for next year though, is Billingsley’s WHIP. That WHIP indicates a much higher ERA. Though i’m sure his K rate helps :o

It will be interesting to see how they handle the rotation for next year. I’d like to see them get a veteran starter that gobbles up innings and doesn’t get hurt instead of overpaying for a number 1 starter. One guy out there that would fit that description is Paul Byrd. He is right around the league average in ERA and you can pencil in about 10 wins, 30 starts and 180 innings for next year. A Billingsley, Kuroda, Kershaw, Byrd and McDonald rotation would be fine for next year considering the division they are in. The money they would save by doing this would allow them to address other needs like re-signing Manny and Furcal and getting an upgrade at 3rd base.

We’re not getting CC, the Yanks are all over that and we have too many needs to blow the bank on a pitcher. We should sign some combination of Burnett/Sheets/Johnson/Pedro/Garland along with Manny and some IF help.
