What do we give Manny though?
Four years is a ridiculous proposition. I say we split the baby and sign him to a three year deal at $27M. If the Dodgers give him four they are crazy.

I agree with the signing Cruz/Beimel. The starting rotation isn't going to be as strong as last year. This mandates that the bullpen be that much better.
Also, I'm excited to see if McDonald could actually nab the 5th starter spot. I know he's been tabbed for the bullpen, but a strong spring combined with Schmidt's 83 MPH heater might change that.

We'd be swapping Manny for Blake, not Pierre. It's more palatable, but still not ideal.

The only reason Ned has to not bring back Beimel is if Torre can't get over his hair, why wouldn't Ned want a veteran lefty?

You won't find an argument here, Mike. If we are in the win it now mode, then sign Cruz. But, I think that Cruz is on his way to Minnesota and with that being said, I would prefer we sign Dennys Reyes than Beimel. Reyes can be filthy, while Beimel has a hard time missing bats and at other times has a hard time finding the strike zone.
Regarding the Manny thing, I get the impression that Boras has finally figured out that no one buys the "multiple" bidders on Manny and has figured he better get something done soon or there will be no money left for Manny.
