Sure Eric Stults would be an upgrade over Schmidt, and honestly who wouldn’t be, but what about Charlie Haeger? He’s been unbelievable this year. Aside from a lousy start on July 18, it’s been mostly all gold the past couple months.
Even if he gets lit up, it’ll be no worse than what we’ll get from Schmidt. And we’d get to see a knuckleballer. That’s pretty cool, right?

I have thought as much. I am still trying to figure out why he leaves Troncoso in to hit with runners in scoring position and two outs. He still had Mota and Kuo in the pen. Pure stupidity!
Knowing Torre, he would’ve sent the very struggling Loretta or the impatient Slap up there to hit, so it was probably a moot point.

He has to be calling the pitches. I see no other reason for Martin to be looking over at the dugout and Torre to be giving signs after every pitch.

Over at kensai’s site, he mentioned that Torre calls the pitches. If this is in fact true, then I’d like him to facepalm himself for that 0-1 slider to Ludwick in the 9th. I turned off the game in disgust after the wild pitch to Rasmus, because I couldn’t bear to see the team blow it and I knew it was going to happen. Why throw a guy a slider when he’s standing six feet away from the plate and was eight miles late on the previous fastball? Why why why?
