The only way that we will be able to carry Belliard, Carroll and DeWitt, is if the 25th man is a glove man who can play above average SS and OF... Someone like Amezega. He's worthless with the bat, but someone who can play above average defense in CF and SS is pretty rare, and does have value as the last man on certain benches. If we did add someone like that the 4th OF would have to be someone who could hit. I like Winn in that role, and I think he could bounce back some from the down year. If he can get it back together he's good to have for inter league, as he‘s a fringe starter now and a pretty decent starter at his best.

Speaking of Amezega's ability to play good CF and SS, Repko was drafted as a shortstop, I know its an idea that's been floated around the blogosphere a few times, but he's really getting to that age where he needs to add some value to what he brings to the table if he wants to stick on an ML roster, like when Jason Grabowski tried to add third string catcher to his resume. If Repko could get to even an average level at SS in ST he'd have a real good chance of sticking on the roster.

If we ended up with the following bench going into the season I’d be OK with it:

OF Winn S
1B/2B/3B Belliard R
2B/3B Carroll R
OF/SS Amezega/Repko R
C Ausmus R

obviously you'd want 1 more left handed bat, but overall it's not bad (and if DeWitt doesn’t win the job in ST he'd be a second lefty bat off of the bench.) I'm not ready to just hand a job over to him without any competition yet, and realistically the 2B position will be hitting 8th in the lineup, and we have 3 guys who wouldn't kill you in that spot, let 'em fight it out, someone will step up and take the job.
