Garret Anderson Walks Off
June 2, 2010 at 7:36 pm | Posted in Garret Anderson, Travis Schlichting | 15 Comments…unfortunately, not into the sunset. Still, he did just knock in the only run of a 14 inning game, so we’ll let him bask for one night, without focusing on his 1-6 with an error. But that’s all he gets, since I’m on line for Conan O’Brien right now.
(Also, cheers to Travis Schlichting, who probably punched his own ticket back to ABQ with FOUR scoreless innings of relief.)

I got on the subway after Ethier’s at-bat figuring the side would be retired and that I’d re-emerge in time for the bottom of the 15th.

I was at Fenway Park tonight to watch my daughter’s team, the Oakland A’s, go down to defeat to the hated Red Sox. The only good thing about the night was watching the guy walk out and change the scoreboard from ARI-LAD, 14, 0-0, to 1-0, LAD, sometime early in the A’s-Red Sox game.
I was happy about the Dodger result until I got back to the daughter’s place, where I’m now checking the scores. My happiness was tempered by my feeling that this game winner from GA will mean he’ll stay all season. Torre will feel vindicated in standing by GA, which means GA will get a chance to destroy rallies in September and October, when they wiil really be important.
Hate to say it, but I think the Dodgers will have to overcome Torre if they’re going to go anywhere this year. The game (and this team) has passed him by.
Always remember the Alston-Koufax story. And always wonder about “legendary” managers.

“…My happiness was tempered by my feeling that this game winner from GA will mean he’ll stay all season…”
This was my second reaction as well (the first being, hey, we won another one with a walkoff!) Let’s face it, Torre is looking for any excuse to keep this guy around. Hopefully Griffey hanging it up with inspire GA to follow in his footsteps. Their numbers are surprisingly similar.
Also — MSTI — I literally laughed out loud when I read you were “on line” for Conan. My wife, who worked in Boston for four years, just this week explained to me that back east is the only place you will hear people say they’re “On line” and not standing in line. Hope you enjoyed the show.

Hey, don’t crucify me after you read this.
Maybe GA will rebound. hell, he still could break .200 for the season if he rebounds. If we’re picking up 20+ wins going into the all-star break, they can afford to get him at bats and see if he regains his stroke for the summer AND the fall.

I’m assuming that you mean Jr and GA’s number are “surprisingly similar” this year…which is tempering my rage.
However, as bad as Jr was this year he was still 31 OPS points above GA (read: GA is a travesty and a miscarriage of justice)

Send GA out on a high note, nice job Schlicter, Mono, Miller.

If the Dodgers really need a veteran left-handed power bat that can play the occasional outfield and some first, why don’t they call up Jay Gibbons. Isn’t he just mashing in AAA right now?

His home/road splits are ridiculous, he’s really a creation of ABQ. But I’d still take him over Anderson.

I’d take ANYONE over Anderson.

I guess we should just start rooting for Garrett Anderson to start hitting.
Clearly, there is no level of failure that can get him DFA’d.
I miss you already Xavier Paul

Clearly GA’s time has expired. I think even Ned will dump him now, what with Ken Griffey Jr available. :)

Are Dodger fans the worst or what? All you guys do is collectively bitch about your coach, players, owner…well that is deserved. You get a walk off win from GA and all you can do is pack his bags. That makes total sense because your other players were hitting the crap out of the ball and you would rather of lost the game with them, than win with GA? You bitch about JT not using the players YOU want, in the situations YOU want, yet he takes you to the playoffs each year he has been here. Worse yet, the Dodgers have the best record of ANY team since May 1st and have gone from a joke, to a contender. WHAT THE HELL IS WRONG WITH YOU LOSERS? Are you all such losers that you can’t tell when you have won (yes, stolen from “Dusk till Dawn”? Enjoy the win dorks…appreciate that you are not the D-Backs…even though you don’t deserve a contender with the way you “Cheer” your team to victory.
