I’m not even sure what to say about this one. I want to give it a real write-up, but…

Good lord. You’re going to have to give me a moment.

  1. And GA is still in our starting lineup today. “Everything’s coming up Milhouse!”

  2. We gave up more for this guy than Lilly/Theriot…

  3. Ned Colletti sucks. If any of the guys the Dodgers got before the deadline even marginally improve their chances of playing deep into October, I vow to run from my West LA house to Chavez Ravine naked.

  4. Seriously, Mike? You’re sad over losing JMac and Lambo? I hate to say it, because I love your blog, but you’re sort of being an alarmist today. All of these trades just reek of “meh.” They are completely normal, indifferent moves.

Not every trade is of “Pedro for Delino” caliber, but you’re making it seem that way.

    • Yes. I am. Analysis coming soon, but in large part it’s because the collection of prospects traded in the last week for a bunch of stiffs could have probably brought back Oswalt or Haren.

      • But you said so yourself that we didn’t need starting pitching. And the Dodgers wouldn’t have taken on either of their salaries anyway. They could have Koufax and Cy Young out there pitching and it wouldn’t matter because nobody can hit the damn ball.

      • I said they didn’t need a back-end starter like Lilly. A top guy like Haren or Oswalt would have been different.

  5. Garret Anderson is still on the roster. Kershaw was ordered to throw at a batter in the 7th inning of a one run game in a pennant race. Xavier Paul is superior to Anderson, Podsednik and Johnson. Troncoso was over used. Ted Lilly and $4mil is better than Monasterios/Ely/McDonald? George Sherrill is placed in situations to fail. Dewitt wasn’t our problem and Theriot adds nothing. Matt Kemp might want to leave when he can because our GM and manager hung him out to dry in a public arena. Russell Martin struggles yet is rarely rested. Ortiz squared. Nick Green. We have a day game tomorrow…let’s rest half our starting line-up. Young guy struggles, send him down….old guy struggles, get him more at bats or innings.

Can we get a dedicated write up of how abysmal management has been this year? The mistakes piled on top of each other are just astounding and the McCourts are not to blame here. Colletti and Torre deserve grades of F-. Usually the players are to blame because what happens on the field is ultimately their responsibility but when management makes it harder for you to win then it becomes easier to fail.

    • +1 million

    • You are being far too easy on the players, and far too hard on management. Kemp has completely underachieved and disappointed. Belisario was a trainwreck from day one. Blake and Martin continued to regress. Injuries have ravaged the team all season. Mental mistakes and errors are piling up at a ridiculous pace. Chalk it up to just a plain old shitty season. Not a diabolical scheme by management to sabotage the season.

      • Come on, I rag on Martin and Blake ALL the time.

      • Except this manager was supposed to be the guy who handled personalities best, if the team is making mental mistakes all the time who is to blame? The guys who are supposed to be coaching them no?

      • Lets not $h!t on J. Martin all the time now. He is absolutely gunning the ball down to 2nd base and i’ve always liked his penchant for quick throws to 1st. Sure he hasn’t recaptured his Silver Slugger form, but he sure hasn’t stopped trying to improve his game.
Now, as for the trades… I just don’t know. They sure aren’t “clever deals”. I agree with the fearless moderator that we sure didn’t get better. I wouldn’t have given up Lambo, thats for sure. Maybe all of this IS a roster shake-up. But in the end, i think its a useless roster shake-up. Los Dodgers 2010 are cooked. The only thing that would make my life bearable now is unloading Manny to CWS for Viciedo. 4th place in the NL West, here we come!

  6. What does it say about the state of the Dodgers that the Pirates actually gave us cash ($500,000) to sweeten the deal?

  7. To top this all off, can you guys see any possibility of DeWitt developing any power in Chicago under Rudy Jaramillo?

    • I hope he puts it in Ned’s face.

    • Rudy sure helped this Cubs hitters this season.

  8. I see it as a clubhouse move. The Dodgers look like Zombies right now and if they don’t collectively snap out of it soon, the season is cooked. I don’t like Colletti a lot… not even a little, but he isn’t retarded. I think he brought in pitching because that’s all you hear about when the Dodgers get mentioned and you can bet the team watches the same shows we do. Second base… whatever. I wanted DeWitt to be awesome—the youthful superstar—but he’s not and probably never will be. He was a timid new kid that looked up to the rest of the guys. Get another guy in the clubhouse that might give you a chance to spark something—make these guys “feel” like they have a shot.
    Maybe it’ll work.

    • So coletti listens to the mainstream media? But he doesn’t read blogs?

      • haha. Clearly.
