No Manny, No Offense
August 28, 2010 at 11:21 pm | Posted in Manny Ramirez, WTF?! | 19 CommentsManny sat, for the third time in a row, and what would the team have done without Scott Podsednik‘s 0-3? Play him, or trade him, but don’t pretend the offense doesn’t suffer without him. It’s ludicrous.
Here, let me give you tomorrow’s excuse: its a day game after a night game. Ha!

agreed. they should trade Torre instead. hes a terrible manager. hes cost this team so many games with his terrible bullpen management and stupid lineup decisions. I guess manny is a pinch hitter now. unbelievable. all of the game have been close games, and with a better manager who like youve said that maximizes his players stregnths, and perhaps were in first place and not 5 and a half back in the wild card race.

Yeah, Manny needs the time off. He’s really busted it this year.
What kind of message did sitting Manny three games in a row send to the rest of the team? It’s obvious that the salary dump means more to management than the extremely outside chance of winning a wild card spot.
If we had REAL ownership, Colletti would be fired tomorrow and Logan White would be locked up before the AZ D’hacks spirit him away.
Come to think of it, if Colletti had any cajones, he would have resigned and let White have the job he deserves.

I would love to be a fly on the wall for that conversation:
“Logan, it’s recently come to my attention that I’m a pretty crappy GM. Would you. . . uh. . .possibly consider taking over my job?”
“Seriously?”
“Well, the pride and prestige of the Dodgers brand means more to me than a petty job ever could. Please say yes?”
“Well, I guess so. But stop pressuring me to hire ex-Giants.”

Sitting a star player for several games in a row for a nonsensical reason? That would NEVER happen, right?
Oh, that reminds me – Matt Kemp says “hi.” :)

I agree, torre is a pretty bad game manager (and he’s obsessed with crappy bench players)…however, manny isn’t exactly tearing it up this year in general (no pun intended) power numbers down, strikeouts up aside…he’s become a mere shell of his former self.I don’t see him making a difference to a winning extent…I hope we keep him and torre plays him everyday so you can all see how mediocre he is.

Did he not get 3 hits and get on base 4 times in the last game he played?? Good lord, i’m a Manny hater from the beginning and even i realize how good he is

Bumped into Ned in the beer line at Miller Park on Thursday. He wasn’t pleasant. His recent acquisitions did ok on Thursday, but he looks lost. It’s time to cut bait. Dodgers are not going to make the playoffs, and even if they did, first round would be it. Clean house from ownership through Schaefer. I’m still not ready for football, but Dodgers 2010 are done.

Even Manny as a ‘shell’, he’s still the best hitter on this team
Comment by David S— August 29, 2010 #
He has to PLAY though. That’s sort of important. He’s too soft to play anymore.

another stupid move was why didnt Torre take out the wild and inconsistent bellisario after he couldnt find the plate and bring in Sherrill to pitch to gonzalez? gonzalez is a lefty and Sherrill kills lefties.

I know we shouldn’t be surprised anymore with the 3 stooges (Coletti, Torre, McCourt) i hope he is packing his bags so that’s the reason why he hasn’t played. Otherwise, saying you’d rather have a “defensive” lineup when Pods is horrible, saying you’d rather not mess with success from a previous game (bailed out by Blake HR), saying you would rather not play him in the Colorado air………….is just fucking stupid!! “This is about winning right now” – Joe Torre, funny he sure doesn’t ever seem like it’s urgent to win….

Lol I knew someone would point out one single game to base their entire theory on…as if that game is evidence enough that he’s still a dangerous hitter…he’s become a singles hitter…that’s all he is…again,I hope we keep him and keep overpaying so you can all see how mediocre he is.
Comment by bjpennisover— August 29, 2010 #
He is a mostly singles hitter that walks a lot, hits some home runs, and plays bad defense. Podsednik is a singles hitter that doesn’t walk at all, doesn’t hit any home runs, and plays bad defense. Does Manny look so mediocre anymore?
He may be a shell of his former self, but he is still the second best hitter on the team (2nd to Ethier) and he is infinitely more valuable than Podsednik. Absolutely no reason he should be on the bench. I hate Torre.

Manny’s OPS is .900, the best on the team. The Dodgers average something like 5.2 runs with Manny in the starting lineup, and 3.7 without him in the lineup. And post all-star break, they’re averaging something like 2.8 without Manny in the lineup. Colorado’s “big outfield” is a poor excuse to keep Manny on the bench. As if Scotty Pods has the ability to actually catch a fly ball after a long run. There are only five or six worse defensive outfielders in all of major league baseball than Scotty Pods (Manny being one, of course).
BTW, format mentioned it above. Brainless Joe left Beli on the mound in the 7th to face CarGo with two out and a runner on, with Sherrill in the bullpen. Beli’s OPS against vs lefties this season is .648, and it’s .695 for his career. Sherrill’s OPS against vs lefties this season is .563, and it’s .496 for his career. Gonzalez has almost identical OPS vs righties and lefties this season, but his career OPS vs righties is .851, and against lefties his career OPS is .775. We very well could have only been down 3-1 in the 9th when Barajas hit his two-run homer. Instead, Brainless Joe Torre left Beli in to face CarGo. Boom goes the dynamite.

Fellow Dodger fans. The thought “If we get to the playoffs we will lose in the first round anyway” is not accurate. Just for kicks because the playoffs are a pipe dream but if we were to play in the playoffs in October we would have Furcal back, Padilla back and until he is officially gone Manny back. Essentially we would have the same Dodgers we all believed in at the start of the season minus Martin and Dewitt who both suck. The starting roation is better now than it was in April. If we got to the playoffs we could win. Back to reality let’s sell, sell, sell and get enough money to sign Lilly, and Crawfordfor next year. Any thoughts on who will play 3B next season?

Blake’s under contract. I think he’ll be the 3b for sure.

I hate those darn contracts sometime.

If Manny is not in the lineup today I guess Joe will say it is because he is out of shape from not playing much this week. Or worse yet Manny doesn’t play in day games after nite games.
Comment by David S— August 29, 2010 #
Manny’s not playing today. New post coming in a second, hang on.
